i was trying very hard to clear my desk all day today, because i will be out of my office next week - for the whole week. but lets face it, work never end.. *sigh*
anyway, when i was checking a bunch of files, suddenly i stopped cold staring at the name written on this one file. She was my junior in high school also my roommate during my final year. suddenly memories of us sharing tea, sharing cookies, sharing stories and and sharing dreams comes rushing back.
we did this crazy thing during that final year. i was their dorm leader, Dorm number 9- my lucky number :D. at the start of school term, like a true Hitler, i force everyone to sit down for a little game. i wrote our name on a piece of paper- put it in a bowl - and ask each of them to pick one. the name they fish out of that bowl will become their secret friend throughout the year. The mission was to secretly take care of this secret friend like a fairy god mother. so lets say if one day the secret friend say she really wanted to eat sweets, then the godmother will put sweet on her bed without the secret friend knowing.
i know damm well right now you wish i was your dorm leader back then hehehehe..... Admit it!
as childish as this may sound, it really did set the tone of our relationship through the year. they did their mission well. we on keep finding sweets placed anonymously on our bed. that kind of thoughtful gesture really do touch each others heart.
at the end of that year's school term, i organized a farewell party, just for the 12 of us roommate. We won 3 hamper in a dorm competition 2 days before (for best dorm, the most cheerful dorm and the most clean dorm for our hostel's yearly farewell ceremony), so our little dorm's farewell party didn't cost us anything! all though, i did give each and everyone of us assignment. we have to buy one farewell gift for our secret friend AND one thank you gift for our own Godmother who had been secretly taking care of us (each of us was a godmother to someone and a secret friend to someone). my secret friend was Wiesa, 5 years my junior. she shared the same locker with me :D it's sooooooo easy to make her happy haha! i just need to put a mickey mouse cartoon newspaper cut out on her bed and she will be grinning the whole day! my godmother was kolinah. she was so sweet to always have something to share with me.
the sweetest thing was, i used to have this secret wish nobody knows about.... i really wanted to be given a music box as a gift. That night, during our dorm's farewell party, she gave me a music box :D
i still kept it in my room back in my parents house.
today, i sign her appointment letter as a teacher, and i was suddenly overwhelm by how life turn out for both of us. She is a teacher now, and here i am signing her appointment letter. it's kinda cool we both have jobs now. She's doing well.... i am so glad. i haven't seen her in years, but she's doing well....
and i still cant get over that music box gift.
all i can think of right now is.... thank you for that music box, and thank you Lord for Your grace on both of us......
